Abderrahim TRIFIS
- Morocco - Born: 1974 in Sidi Mokhtar
Born in Sidi Mokhtar, between Essaouira and Marrakech, Abderrahim Trifis is a self-taught Moroccan painter who discovered painting as a true vocation at a young age. In 2008, he left his commercial activity to devote himself entirely to art, embracing the creative path with determination and authenticity.
Influenced by the autodidact painters of Essaouira—many of whom share his rural origins—Trifis naturally inscribes his work within this ethno-pictorial tradition. His practice is nourished by the cultural archetypes of his nomadic ancestors, by memory, by collective imaginaries, and by the vibrant, sun-drenched landscapes of the hinterland.
His compositions are rich and densely populated, often containing multiple scenes within a single painting. Characters with carnival-like silhouettes evolve among ornamental motifs reminiscent of traditional henna tattooing. Trifis frequently paints on animal skin, using pointillism and relief techniques with traditional tools such as reed sticks or wool brushes, echoing the gestures of nomadic artisans.
Marked by an abundance of forms and colors that seem to generate one another, his work develops like a poetic and fantastical cycle. In Trifis’s universe, beings and elements transform continuously—fish becoming goats, women turning into trees or flowers—reflecting his vision of the world as an interconnected chain without boundaries, where imagination and life flow endlessly into one another.
