HABBOULI Bouchaïb

Bouchaïb Habbouli is a self-taught Moroccan painter, born in 1945 in Azemmour, where he continues to live and work. Following Morocco's independence, he developed a passion for drawing and color, leading him to undertake training as a youth center art facilitator provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. From 1957 to 1963, he attended workshops at La Maâmora in Rabat while supervising children at the youth center in his hometown.

His first solo exhibition took place in 1970. Since then, he has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Morocco and internationally, including inter-Arab and Mediterranean art gatherings. He has also contributed to book cover designs for publishing houses and created wall posters, notably for Transparency Maroc, the Moroccan association fighting against corruption.

Habbouli's work is characterized by a palette of dark colors, mainly grays and browns derived from walnut stain. He explores themes such as solitary faces with varied forms, painted on cardboard with vigorous strokes, as well as stylized birds. His artistic approach blends Western modernism with Moroccan culture, creating an original and personal universe.

In 2020, a retrospective exhibition of his work was organized by the Al Mada Foundation at the Villas des Arts in Rabat and Casablanca, highlighting his artistic journey and commitment to making art accessible in Morocco.
