SAHABA Aziz
- Morocco - Born : 1965 in Casablanca
Abdelaziz Sahaba is a Moroccan painter and a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts of Tétouan. His work, deeply marked by a distinctive figurative style, stands out for its strong command of drawing and color. Through his portraits, he captures a melancholic and troubled emotion, giving his works a poignant human depth.
Known for his discretion and restraint, Sahaba explores themes of isolation and solitude, portraying faces and bodies that seem abandoned in desolate spaces. These figures, often depicted in moments of distress, reflect the anguish of individuals confronted with a cold and inhumane society. His work belongs to a subjective and expressive register, seeking to awaken collective awareness in the face of human suffering.
He employs a mixed technique combining cardboard, paper, and newspaper clippings, giving his painting a resolutely contemporary dimension. His approach fuses drawing, typography, and color into a strong visual harmony, carried by an expressive gesture and a poetic language.
In 1995, he exhibited with the collective La Source du Lion in Casablanca, notably in several French cultural institutes. His work gained recognition and stood out in particular at the Fifth Biennale of Young Moroccan Painting in 1999. His painting, both poetic and imbued with hope, bears witness to his commitment to exploring the human soul and the solitude of the individual.
