DAIFALLAH Noureddine
- Morocco - Born : 1960 in Marrakech.
Noureddine Daifallah is a Moroccan artist trained at the School of Applied Arts in Marrakech and at the Regional Pedagogical Center of Rabat, fine arts department. He lives and works in Marrakech. A professor of visual arts, he is recognized as one of the major figures of contemporary Moroccan calligraphy.
Inspired by the Muslim tradition, he profoundly renews the art of calligraphy by replacing ink with paint and by privileging the aesthetic dimension of gesture. His works deliberately blur the legibility of writing in favor of a rhythmic interplay of lines, loops, and ornamentation, dominated by dark, earthy tones that give his work a strong spiritual and poetic dimension.
From his first exhibition in 1977, his work gained rapid recognition. In 1991, he was awarded prizes at the Istanbul Biennial as well as at the 2nd Meeting of Young Moroccan Painting at Espace Wafa Bank. His works have been exhibited and collected in Morocco, Europe, the Arab world, and the United States, and are notably included in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum. Today, he continues to be regularly presented in Moroccan galleries, particularly in Casablanca and Marrakech.
