Hajar El Moustaassime
- Morocco - Born : 1993 in Marrakech
Hajar El Moustaassime is a Moroccan painter and visual artist living and working in Tangier. Passionate about drawing, she turned to the visual arts at an early age. After obtaining her baccalaureate in applied arts in Marrakech in 2012, she continued her studies at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tétouan, where she earned a degree in design in 2017.
Her artistic approach centers on the condition of women and their emancipation. She questions socially constructed notions of gender by revisiting popular symbols and transforming everyday materials into visual compositions that explore ideas of energy, balance, and freedom.
Her work oscillates between figuration and materiality, developing a singular pictorial universe that combines drawing, painting, collage, and mixed techniques. She favors a chromatic palette dominated by ochre tones and uses bold materials such as rubber, copper wire, and inner tubes, which she transforms into floral creations.
Hajar El Moustaassime’s works have been exhibited in several galleries and institutions in Morocco. They are also part of the permanent collections of Banque Populaire du Maroc, the Moroccan Ministry of Culture, and the Montresso Foundation. Her artistic commitment has been recognized with several distinctions, including a Silver Medal from the Académie des Arts, des Sciences et des Lettres in Paris.
